Types of Lifting Sling and Safety Measures

It is generally the personnel safety that comes in the mind when you think about moving heavy apparatus and parts and lifting. Slings are the generally used materials to handle apparatus and mishandling of these materials can result in the injuries and accidents at workplace. So safety measures are necessary to avoid the accidents whenever heavy lifting takes place. Generally the common Lifting Sling are Chain, Nylon and Wire Rope Slings. It is necessary to have the basic understating of their characteristics and techniques and certain common uses that will be helpful to prevent accidents and injuries.

Nylon Slings offers the great strength and elasticity. With heavy load, nylon slings can absorb shock and can also retain the original shape when released. Generally it is a combination of strength and strength that is useful for continuous lifting situations as well as tie-downs.

Chain Slings provide a powerful lifting option. These are made from an alloy steel. There is no shock absorbance in chain slings as it is found in nylon slings. Before being used such type of chain slings should be checked for gauges, nicks, stretching as well as other wear signs. For a range of hitching options different metal endings can be set to chain slings.

Another type of slings that are prepared from twisting wire over a core of fibers or wire are known as Wire Rope Slings. These are prone to fatigue from recurring bending and scratch due to the intricate character of these slings. As Wire Rope Slings become rusty and corrode easily so these should not be exposed to moist working environment. These slings must be placed in the those areas that are ventilated and not near the floors during storage.
